Speculators are those who provide liquidity when others are scared. They sell when maniacal buying is going on, they buy when frantic selling is forced on desperate over-leveraged investors who are on the ropes. They smooth the tops and fill in the bottoms. If they get it wrong, they lose their money. Successful speculators in gold are doing a similar thing. They courageously step in front of the runaway speeding US$ locomotive, hold up their money and call a halt, forcing the drunk in charge engine drivers to apply brakes, shut off the fuel, sober up and reduce to a sensible speed. They are noble heroes dealing in noble metals, deserving of Nobel prizes, far more so than the ignoble recipients like Al Gore and Barack Obama. Mqurice
