No Mark, the $0.82 cents was in a Reuters release, people on this thread didn't just make that up themselves. What I am asking is how did Reuters et al come up with $.82. That number is in the stories. If you could explain further it would be of benefit. I understood what you're saying, that EP didn't say .82. I haven't seen text or audio link to EP Q&A, so I'm taking your word for that. Again, consensus is .84.

Compaq on track for Q4 EPS of $0.82 -- CFO

biz.yahoo.com

"LAS VEGAS, Nov. 17 (Reuters) - Compaq Corp Chief Financial Officer Earl Mason on Monday said the company is comfortable with analysts' earnings estimates of $0.82 a share for the fourth quarter, and he does not see any impact on earnings from the Asian currency crisis."

Explanations?

I know it's still early. But Japan is up again.
I'm not sure if the tail is wagging the dog or the dog is wagging the tail, but I think we may see 70 tomorrow. That's just my opinion! The only thing that would kill momentum is profit taking. Again, my opinion only.

HWP just announced earnings this afternoon. Apparently they did not make their estimate. However, from what I understand their income in the PC portion of the business was excellent, although I do not know all of the particulars. Anyone care to speculate on the impact on the stock tomorrow. There seem to be two opposite forces at work here (earnings not up to expectations but a solid PC business) so the impact may be hard to calculate. -Keith-
