Had IBM done its own OS it might well have been a total failure and MSFT, had it capitalized on that failure, may have done even better. Not saying that, just saying we can't know what would have been. MSFT's revenue growth in those early years was impressive -- going from 100s of thousands to millions very quickly, and before IBM was involved.
