Look. The Nasdaq was being driven by speculation in companies that didn't have a plan for making a profit. Some didn't have a plan for making money of any type. That means this isn't a measure of anything at the time.

It is true, many of the companies didn't have substantive business models. But the Internet economy was real: Companies were putting up e-commerce sites, buying servers, and hiring people. Yes, there were spectacular failures that were a small piece of economic pie. But there was tremendous economic activity at the same time that was a direct result of the Internet.
