Interesting from the corruption index, the US and Belgium are both 7.1 and Chile scored slightly better with 7.2.

They are saying that Canada and Australia are less corrupt than we are. Possibly.

I always "consider the source" for these kind of "studies."

Temperature and current play a part in any open water swim.

I swam a 0.7M leg of a triathalon in a river once at 56 degrees. I had an instant migrane headache and kept it for most of the swim. Then the swim was against a 4mph current. Not strong if one was a decent swimmer but I've been in stronger currents and seen people have fits.

I actually finished the swim (Farmington River, Canton, CT back in the 80's) but they were pulling many out who could not. One older (probably younger than I am today) participant finsihed the swim and had a heart attack climbing the bank on the swim / bike transition. He didn't make it and died on the way to the hosipital.

I purchased a long john wet suit later that summer :).
