Ira: let me share with you some experiences I have had with so called portfolio managers of mutual funds, that all the LONG TERM investors
are holding.

Most of these mutual funds trade in and out of stock positions as much as daytraders!

So in essence even the LONG TERM investors are TRADERS!

Arguing the usefulness of traders, is like arguing the usefulness of securities markets - They are an essential component of the Capitalist system!

Re:"Does anyone have a feel for this? How much of the market action is "investor" vs. "trader"?"

Ira, I have read the we Day Traders make up 20 % of the market volume every day. Hope this helps..Greg
