Keyes on (worthless) currencies

This morning on some radio talk show, Tony Keyes was the guest. He has written a new book, and if it is anything like the hour I heard it's bound to be pretty doom and gloom. He predicts a zero percent chance of retaining our lifestyle. Anyway, he claimed he is teaming up with Ed Yardeni to ramp up awareness among voters and shareholders. He didn't get into much detail about how they are going to accomplish this.

He claimed the Republicans have taken the lead on this issue in Washington, but the Clinton administration has treated the problem as a political problem, with typical political responses. He finds this troubling because he is not sure whether they know any other response. He guaranteed he and Ed will put enough pressure on the government to
elicit a more helpful response.

He spent quite a bit of time talking with a caller about currencies. He explained the fact that currencies are backed by nothing except the overall economy (government) that issues them. He predicts they will
soon become worthless. He also mentioned that this could be the reason the government has put on it's happy-face and attempted to deflect the y2k issue.
