Steve,

<< $83 million is attributable to an increase in work in
progress inventories resulting principally from
capacity constraints in Assembly and Test due to the Company's transition to
SDRAM. The Company expects to work
through these capacity constraints by early calendar 1998. " >>

I understood this to mean that by January when the PC box makers will have shifted to mostly SDRAM MU will have improved their assembly and test to meet their needs. I don't expect a step function improvement from 20% to 80% SDRAM in January.. but rather a gradual growth.

My 50 - 50 distribution of DRAM to SDRAM is a guestimate at best and not based on anything read or posted. If anyone knows the improvements made over this quarter please post. I am sure they made some improvements but not sure of the degree.

Thanks for the comments

DavidG

"one of life's greatest tragedies is the the murder of a grand theory by a ruthless mob of facts" - ben franklin paraphrase.

thanks for using facts to set us straight.

btw, when these constraints are worked out the supply of dram will increase... good news or bad news? my bets are placed.

btw, when does mu meet with analysts this week? or is it next?
