The Left is still giving this whacko awards after his insane predictions did not come true? Not too surprising I suppose...

He also predicted (in "The Population Bomb" a book published in 68) that

"In the 1970s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death in spite of any crash programs embarked upon now."

In 71 he said

"By the year 2000 the United Kingdom will be simply a small group of impoverished islands, inhabited by some 70 million hungry people ... If I were a gambler, I would take even money that England will not exist in the year 2000."

The reality of course was that even as the population went up, food per person also went up and starvation decreased. More recently Africa and India (both places he though of as hopeless, that we shouldn't send any food aid too since they where going to starve anyway and we would need the food to feed people in rich countries and the biggest food producing countries) have strongly outpaced the world as a whole in economic growth, while in the UK (and many other rich countries) obesity is the big problem not starvation.
