Standard & Poor’s earlier this month placed the U.S. government on a negative credit watch, warning that it might cut the country’s credit standing if it does not think the spending cuts under any agreement are big enough.

That's only news to you wingers. The rest of us have known that for weeks. For nearly one hundred years the US has had a triple A rating..........100 frigging years.......and your asshole leaders are about to change that. I am in the middle of a refi.......that means I won't get my interest rate that was promised......the bank wouldn't lock me in because of this mess. And trust.....I am not the only one.

You laugh when I tell you the GOP is on a downward spiral. Your party will go down in infamy as the one that's trying to destroy the US single handedly. The level of disgust I feel can not be described. You all have sunk to a new all time low.

A credit downgrade for the U.S. could prove detrimental as the country struggles to regain its economic footing. With a lower credit rating, the government’s borrowing costs would likely increase, by $100 billion annually by one estimate. Interest rates on home mortgages, and loans for cars and other purchases could also increase, cutting into consumers’ spending power.

This outcome is certain if we slip into default, something for which you were cheering...you post proof your extremism...

Dave, don't you think it's even MORE likely we'll be downgraded if we don't borrow to pay for the crap we've already bought? You CLAIM to be an accountant - what would be the result on your credit score if you personally did that?

One credit agency has downgraded US debt. S&P and Moodys WILL do so I'm sure. The problem is the amount of debt to GDP. I'm sure Obama and leading Democrats KNOW more downgrades are coming and are desparately trying to work a CYA strategy of blaiming it on Republicans not raising taxes.
