When I was 19 - I went to Michigan to work for GM - the best managed company in the world.I recieved UAW wages and they extorted by threat of specific strike ,a wage that was beyond global scales.

It destroyed the goose that layed the golden egg.

Management was to blame as well ,as it was comfortable for all.

What is facing our government are the tough decisions that private business has made all along, since 2008.A slow gradual awareness that competition has whittled away at margins.

The internet has accelerated this process.

The last bastion of union strength is strongly correlated with corruption.I,E, we pay dues to you and you give us raises.

The deficits that currently exist ensure the dog won't hunt no more.

The unions won't like it ,but the writing is on the wall.

The plush jobs of security and increasing pay checks are over.

They'll be luck to keep the pensions - I don't think they will.Surely they will pay for benefits like the rest of private employment does.

Corruption has taken it too far and the howling will be excvessive. They'll get what they have coming from back door good ole boy deals.

They never last in perpetuity.

That awareness is just occurring.

The recent deficit fight will be the turning point.

Those who oppose austerity will ensure the credit rating decline and that will accelerate there give backs/losses.

It is inevitable.

Remember the union that fought Reagon - NPAC-they all lost their jobs.Eastern airlines parished.

Radical unions lose all.

Globalization assures it.

Like it or not.
