Yes, with an increasing input of renewables grids must be adapted. That's one of the challenges of offshore wind farms.

IF the Middle East countries put their oil money to work, they could send Space Stations high about the earth, and put in huge solar panels there.....Then they could microwave down the power to make energy from solar here on earth...Their deserts would bloom, would be irrigated, and people would no longer starve.
