"If not for a Green Party candidate, Walsh might well have lost in the 2010 elections to then-Rep. Melissa Bean (D-Ill.). As it happened, he won by a mere 290 votes."

That is the way American elections work. Third party candidates almost never win but they do decide elections. The liberals who voted for the GREEN party elected a conservative. People like them elected George W Bush in 2000. Ralph Nader got 97,000 votes in Florida in 2000. If less than 1% of these folks would have voted for Gore he would have won.

The idea that we won't pay interest in the debt if the budget ceiling isn't raised is totally absurd. I can't believe journalists are falling for this nonsense.
