OT

Maybe Winehouse died of withdrawal, but if she did, the fact that she didn't eat and she took lots of other drugs probably had something to do with it.

she was eating, however she was bulimic...

i had a family member who died from a bulimic condition, was found dead on the floor after having vomited one last time...

she needed to be hospitalized....apparently not possible in GB, at least in the US she could have been forced into treatment...see britney spears.... of course that doesn't guarantee a good outcome, but it looks like this poor woman didn't stand a chance

That's the thing with obsessive stoners, they do multiple substances and alcohol concurrently. Then, when they OD, the moralists pick the poison they're against and blame that. Apparently with her parents, that was rehab!

Bonefish is right. The wiki quotation is ridiculous.

"about 50% to 60% of alcoholics will develop any significant withdrawal symptoms upon cessation of alcohol intake"

Try 100%, that is a far more accurate figure.

It's one of those cases where you have to be careful about the blurb in Wikipedia. Click on some of the links cited.

You will see the death rates can be more like russian roulette with two chambers loaded.

The percentages will vary upon what the definition of an alcoholic is.

In the case of Amy Winehouse, she should have definitely seen a specialist before giving up, especially if she had been boozing it up after a relapse.
