Thanks Orhan. I see that it is much more complicated. But I do feel better that I had remembeed correctly that shorting oddlots could be done without waiting (in line with others) for an uptick.

It seems to me that all the derivatives and counter-derivatives with their constantly-fluctuating spread and premiums, together with margin buying and short selling, create a situation that maybe someone can analyze with a computer or with well-trained gut reactions, but I certainly can't.

I am just going to stick tenaciously to the fundamental perception that by any past measures whatever, stocks are terribly overpriced, and that what is overpriced usually gets adjusted in a free market (as opposed to, say, diamonds).

I think for most people the short term is a less-than-zero-sum game--maybe even worse than roulette.
