With all those unfunded commitment that our elected hooligans in Washington have taken on, there is no doubt that we need more borrowing. The issue is that they have lost sanity. Hopefully those who are trying to slow down the future increases in expenses will succeed. Otherwise, there is no way but down. Numbers are a stubborn thing.

You describe one extreme position. The extreme on the other side is Harry Reid's don't change anything bill. (Obama's budget was just fantasy so we, like every Senator did, can ignore that).

So really, the guy who splits the difference, the compromise position is Rand Paul who proposes to cut the budget a tiny 1%/year which brings the budget into balance in 7-10 years.
