No it's not...the large majority wants compromise, not stuff you can't do.

What ever McConnell/Reid etc. sell out to will be a compromise......a compromise that gives Obama a debt ceiling increase and does virtually nothing to lower the long term (10 year out) debt level....a debt level in the $24T regime which in my opinion will bring on TOTAL catastrophic collapse.. That's compromise. More than that is called complete capitulation. From what I see, the overwhelming majority of the American people want some form of a balanced budget amendment including a half dozen near left liberals I have spoken to. It's coming whether you like it or not. The original C/C/B bill should have at least been debated, amended by Dems, and voted on. Immediately after this debacle is settled , the Reps. should send over a clean Balance Budget Amendment Bill and demand a fair process........debate/amendment/vote. I see where M. Udall (DEMOCRAT)
has offered a BBA bill from the DEM. side.....capping spending to 20% of GDP. This is where the compromise is needed. In my opinion, the Democratic leadership will NEVER allow a reasonable starting proposal like Udalls to ever see the light of day. Why?......because it might pass......if not in this Congress......certainly in the next. Let me ask you? Are you in favor of any form of a balanced budget amendment that caps annual spending to some % of GDP? If not.......again, there is no basis for discussion between us ....we are both just wasting our time and I'd rather further my cause elsewhere.

My prediction is, that because of its intransigence, the tea party will get nothing out of this...possibly not even spending cuts...

The spending cuts... if any... were always going to be insignificant. But if you think the tea party is a loser....well.....we'll have to wait till 2012. None of this discussion would have even taken place but FOR the tea party. If anything.....being called terrorists, obstructionist, and everything under the sun, will energize them. Had the entire Senate been up for vote in 2010, we would have a Republican senate right now.
The US outlook under Obama has deteriorated since then.....and could get worse......far worse. Unfortunately for your side, even a near brain dead electorate will recognize that......and there is no way Obama will be able to successfully spin it otherwise.
