Modernity once did, investments, infrastructure, roads, bridges, national projects that were once the envy of the world and are now heading towards decay....oh, and defense...let's not forget the most expensive and powerful military complex the world has ever known... Of course they're "headed toward decay". All of our money is being sucked up by failed social programs instigated by the Democrats over the last 50 years. How is that a surprise? We WASTE $100 Billion annually on a federal department of education for which we receive NOTHING OF VALUE. We throw our money away on stupid programs like "Cash for Clunkers". Our government wastes hundreds of billions ANNUALLY on fraudulent health care claims paid by Medicare and Medicaid. Some states, like California, suck the life blood out of their economies with idiotic requirements like needlessly replacing every gas pump nozzle in the state at a cost of $2 Billion. Yes, we spend more on defense than we should, too. But the simple truth is we could handle ALL OF THAT were it not for the accrued deficits in Medicare and SS.
