we could get by with entirely service jobs. but we would have a lower standard of living as a result. manufacturing makes service jobs possible. people that make things will naturally have a higher standard of living. sure, some service jobs actually pay better than manufacturing jobs, but not many. the finished product can represent many layers of jobs to get to the final product. service jobs, not many layers.

service jobs are not only nice, but some of them are necessary, like police, courts and such that make civilization possible. but none of them would be possible without products of some type. we NEED manufacturing to keep raising our standard of living.
