Michael - Re: "Intel & Viet Nam"

Thanks for the article.

I hope Intel succeeds in Viet Nam - but I also hope the people of Viet Nam succeed as the country becomes more open.

There's a lot to be gained by everyone - I just hope it happens "better" this time around.

Paul

Michael, All,

I invested an hour forty five minutes listening to HWP's conference call last evening, as much to know more about their business as to get a feel for business in general. Some points I though were interesting from an "Intel" perspective:

-On sub 1K PC's, margins are better than you would expect, driven primarily by much lower component costs, especially "memory and storage". They mentioned dramtic lower component costs several times also in over all margins on all PC's.
- Also sub 1K, when asked if this was incremental (new buyers) or canabalizing higher priced PC's, they said their perspective was the same as Intel's comments at it's analyst's meeting, that growth is taking place at all product price points.
-Great growth in servers, when question twice on if this was coming from Sun, reluctantly admitted that they were winning competitive situations against "competition". On Unix v. "NT servers", Unix is becoming an important but "niche" market, with the growth in NT (Intel based) servers.
-Merced was only mentioned once.
-Biggest growth was Latin America and Asia, showed very little panic at this and said orders from the regions seemed normal at this point.

If anyone else has the time/patience to listen, the number is 800 633-8284, (code 3217275).
