Emanuel Cleaver gave us "sugar-coated Satan sandwich," and the needful meme was launched. So far, White House officials working the cable shows on the debt limit deal aren't really eating up this emerging metaphor, stoically resisting the best efforts of devilish sandwich vendors. "What would you say to Congressman Cleaver, the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, who called this a 'sugar- coated Satan sandwich'?" MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell deadpanned to Valerie Jarrett, senior adviser to the president. "Well, I think as we go through the package and as the members are beginning to learn what's really in the package, they're seeing that it's looking better and better," Jarrett responded. Earlier in the day, senior adviser David Plouffe also put Satan behind him on ABC's "Good Morning America." "You saw Congressman Cleaver there calling this a 'Satan sandwich,'" host George Stephanopoulos said. Plouffe didn't bite.
