Wishing to avoid bailouts does not equal wishing for the demise of a company. The proper function of a free market requires some companies that fail, to be allowed to end, but recognizing that doesn't equal actively wishing for any particular company to fail, or for anyone to be unemployed.

I'm really more interested in the demise of the excessive power the unions have. They are an extremely un-helpful feature of the American economy at this time, and contribute substantially to our increasing inability to compete in an increasingly global economy.

To be sure, I'm fine with unions getting whatever they can for their respective memberships. However, their tactics are very similar in many respects to a legalized form of extortion, not unlike the concept of "protection" rackets once offered by organized crime.

And even when you get past the legalized extortion concept, what you cannot get past is the fact that they breed laziness and a lack of independence; they distort the economies of American manufacturing, and in some instances contribute to an inferior American product.

That is not to say there aren't good characteristics, but the negatives far outweigh the positives IMO.
