The Independents are turning against Obama, the only thing keeping his numbers from totally collapsing is that Democrats have not abandoned him (and a there are a lot of registered Democrats) A new poll shows President Barack Obama’s disapproval rate among political independents has broken above 50 percent, even while he is using the debt ceiling debate to seek approval from those critical swing voters. Support for Obama among independents has fallen from 42 percent in May to 31 percent, and disapproval has risen to 54 percent, according to a late July poll of 1,500 registered voters by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.dailycaller.com Over the past year, Obama has lost support among all party groups, though the decline has been steeper among independents than among Republicans or Democrats. Today's 38% approval rating among independents is 18 percentage points lower than the 56% found July 6-12, 2009. During the same period, his support has fallen nine points among Democrats (from 90% to 81%) and eight points among Republicans (from 20% to 12%).gallup.com Two new polls this morning augur ill for President Barack Obama and his fellow Democrats who control Congress. The worst -- from Gallup -- finds that for the first time since Obama took the oath, his support among independents, a key voter segment in his decisive 2008 coalition election win, has fallen below 40%. The new tracking finds that Obama's support among all voter segments has declined in the past year, but nowhere more than among independents. Only 38% now support him, an 18-point drop from 52 weeks ago, when polls first began showing the nation's rapidly-growing population of independent voters peeling off, as Obama relentlessly pushed his healthcare plan and ignored polls saying jobs and the economy were uppermost on voters' minds.latimesblogs.latimes.com Poll: Debt Ceiling Fight Hurts Obama in Florida Thursday, August 04, 2011 By BRENT KALLESTAD, Associated Press TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The survey showed 41 percent favor Obama winning a second term, while 40 percent prefer a Republican getting elected in 2012. Obama held a 11-point lead in May, after the killing of Osama bin Laden. For the first time, a majority of independents (54 percent) disapprove of his job performance.hotlineoncall.nationaljournal.com July 25-31st Poll Gallup poll Obama's approval by group Democrats - 77%, Independents - 37%, Republicans 12% Overall 42%, Overall disapprove - 49%gallup.com Obama could have trouble in Florida, according to a new Quinnipiac poll that finds that the president’s approval rating among independents in the swing state dropped 9 percentage points to 33 percent following the announcement of a deal to raise the debt ceiling. Quinnipiac looked at two sets of poll numbers: those from July 27 to July 31, before the agreement was announced, and those from Monday and Tuesday, after the agreement had been announced and was making its way through the House and Senate. During that time, Obama’s overall approval rating remained constant at 44 percent. But he saw a precipitous drop off in support among independents.
