Mr. Mazzerella,
Since my mom always tells me how smart and wonderful I am, I will assume you were talking to me:-)
I don't think anyone needs to dig too deep to find Jay's motivation. Over the past year or so, Jay has touted IPM in a very heavy manner. So much so, that he has staked much of his credibility and career on IPM's coattails. This was clear to anyone who read Jay's newsletter or his webpage.
The timing of Jay's diatribe and lack of any concrete facts other than personal opinion as it pertains to subjective measurements of management expertise underscores the the extreme panic and despartaion that Jay must be feeling. He is riding the coattails of a dirt that may or may not be successful, but will certaintly be stagnant at best for a little while.
In effect, Jay has told people to sell one dirt that may or may not have some explosive news on the horizon, to buy another that is capped to the upside in the short term by its recent disappointing news release. I'm sorry, but my eight year old daughter would be able to figure out that is a bad trade. I think Jays motivation is as clear as the sweat on his brow.
