'Hundreds of young black people beating white people'... President Lincoln, with strong Congressional support, attempted to repatriate all people of African descent back to Africa. Land in Africa was purchased and the country of Liberia was founded. The repatriations began and hundreds of thousands of freed slaves were resettled there. The action was known as The Liberia Project [1], [2]. Additional resettlements to the Caribbean countries and Brazil occurred. Eventually, over time, Congress failed to appropriate adequate funding for the resettlements to continue and the practice gradually ended.
