Yeah, what actually happened was that Obama told S&P, "If you downgrade, we'll drag your ass through the mud. Don't you dare do it."

And S&P promptly did what? Downgraded.

And, of course, the "experts" at the White House quickly started slinging the mud:

A source familiar with the discussions said that the Obama administration believes S&P's analysis contained "deep and fundamental flaws."

My only question is why the hell they didn't do it sooner.
