In general, the ministerial language of "getting the call" is professional language, not unlike that of any other. Ministers say that when asked why they entered, simply because it's the talk they learned in seminary or around other ministers. Neither bad nor good. It's just a quick way to move the talk to something else. At least that's my own experience.

As you may know, I spent three years in seminary and two teaching theology. That kind of talk was not uncommon. And it distinctly did not mean anything mystical.

There is a spot in the brain that, when stimulated, gives people religious "experiences". I think a lot of people find that kind of stimulation a "calling". And that's fine, but I think it's biochemical. Not insanity, exactly. More like hallucination- which is your own body messing with your perceptions.
