I wish I would hear voices. But mine would be ... what the hell is the market going to do tomorrow ?

Nice line. I like it. I've been reading, rereading actually, Reynolds Price's great book about his battle with spinal cancer in the 80s. I love both his novels and his essays so it's for the pleasure of what his writing does to me. And I'm working my way through his work again.

But Price is idiosyncratically religious--Christian and confessional (not dogmatic), but somewhat mystical. And definitely not defensive. He has religious dreams and hears voices. And confesses it knowing of his audience's skepticism. It's refreshing while it will never be my approach--it requires a sufficient suspension of the everydayness of life that I cannot reach--it's still soothing.

Recommended.
