All you say is true, but it doesn't matter.

We need to make major structural changes to spending: defense, entitlements, taxes, medicare, medicaid, etc, etc else we are screwed. the downgrade was just a wake up call.

political? who cares, we needed a slap in the face.

we have become a nation of debt and entitlement on the left and on the right.

i could care less about the politics of this stuff.

it was you or someone else who quoted john kenneth galbraith's brilliant statement which we should all remember:

Make the correction and the % of debt to GDP goes from 90 to 80. Hardly where it needs to be anyway.
