Yes, and not just Italy. Subsidies in the U.S. are also at risk. FSLR soared to $175 recently, when they got big U.S. government support for their Systems. The Tea Party hates all government spending, and particularly alt-energy subsidies, since their religious Beliefs include Global Warming Denial.

The Bull Case: panel prices are sinking so low so fast, they are approaching grid parity in some big sunny markets with high electricity costs. Other areas will pick up the slack from weak European demand. China just enacted a FIT, California will continue supporting solar no matter what the feds do.

I am not convinced of the Bull Case. I just know I am unable to time the bottom exactly, and I am LT bullish on solars, and the sector is sufficiently hated today to start buying.

The only thing I'm certain of, is continued extreme volatility.
