Remember what our President said on the stump in 2010. He said something like "we just about finished pushing the car out of the ditch and now the Republicans want the car keys." So the American people (or rather the ones who cared to come out and vote egged on by the likes of Hannity and Limbaugh) gave the Republicans the keys and look what they did. They drove the car right back into the ditch. Our President, to keep the recovery going, listened to the Republicans and went along with them to extend the cuts because, as they put it, increasing the taxes would hurt the ongoing recovery of the fragile economy.

And today, the S&P, in its communique has specifically stated that it is the lack of revenues via tax increases causing the downgrade. To borrow a Clinton cliche which I think Obama should put in the Oval office: "It is the taxes stupid"
