It sounds like VVV is a rare commodity on the streets of London.

The reasons behind the riots: “There are a lot of young people who feel like they don’t have a stake in their society and because of that, they feel like they have nothing to lose. And there’s big pressure for them to strive for a lifestyle which tells them that by driving this car, wearing these trainers, wearing this much gold, having these labels slapped all over you means that you’re successful and they feel they’re entitled to that. But for whatever reason, because they can’t get jobs or because they don’t want to work, it doesn’t matter, this is like a big huge shopping party for them. And there’s a lot of frustration, there’s a lot of hope that’s been dashed. … But there are also a lot of people who would just like to see the city burn.”

The rioters should not be thought of as criminals but as organ donors.

The rioters should be "transported". Ship 250,000 of these yob rejects to the Falklands, then give it back to the Argies! <g>

Rioters are exploiting a niche. That's nature. We've seen this over and over and over.

Am I the oldest person (58) in the USA posting here?

Talked with my father (78), worried about economic unrest.

I reminded him, he was born in 1932. Seen this come and go many more times than I have. It comes and it goes. Meanwhile, it's like sitting in a rowboat, being lifted and lowered by waves.

The waves pass, the boat floats.

I admit that it's unsettling. Some boats will be overturned.

In the USA, some will have to live in homeless shelters, but we have homeless shelters. Some will have to get food stamps, but we have food stamps. Some will turn to food banks, but we have food banks.

In the meantime, my solutions: don't have children out of wedlock. Especially for women, don't have children out of wedlock with more than one man. Finish school. Learn a way to make money honestly. Don't use drugs. Don't commit crimes and get caught up in the criminal justice system. Don't spend more money than you have. Don't get caught up in the spiral of debt you cannot repay and wind up in the shit. Stick together.

Especially, and above all else, learn how to sell something that somebody else wants to buy.

I am always looking for people who know what they are doing. These days, that is rare. Example, I have found some people who can fix metal things that break. The people who own it are Korean (wife) who speaks good English, Chinese (husband) who does not speak good English but is a good boss, and the employees are Latinos who cannot speak English but know how to fix things. They will fix anything while I wait and are happy to be paid in cash.

I have found a wonderful Chinese restaurant supply store that caters primarily to Asian restaurants, selling kitchen supplies for a fraction of ordinary stores selling home goods.

I have found an excellent auto repair shop run by Vietnamese.

The common denominator -- run by Asians, selling good quality, not crap.

I think no matter what happens they will remain right side up. If rioting happens in DC, they are more than 15 miles from DC.

Even when the Roman Empire fell, the people living in, say, France, were insulated by distance. Life went on.

Maybe I am whistling past the grave yard. I think not, but time will tell.
