LONDON (AP) - Britons swept up, patched up and feared further violence Tuesday, demanding police do more to protect them after three nights of rioting left looted stores, torched cars and blackened buildings across London and several other U.K. cities.

this is what happens when you disarm the public.

Raising tax rates back to where they were in the Clinton administration is far, far from "taxing away all the wealth of all the 'rich' people,"

But Democrats say they don't want to raise the rates back to where they were in the Clinton administration ... only those on the 'rich'. That means the tax rate increase proposed would be even more insignificant. My point was to show that even were you to tax away all the rich's wealth it wouldn't come close to solving our financial problems.

It's odd isn't it, that with taxes at a pretty low rate, historically speaking, the wingers are so afraid of raising them- even on the very rich. I could understand why some of the very rich might not like the idea- though some of the very rich say they think the taxes should be higher- which is pretty socially responsible of them. But here's what makes me laugh- the rich don't run out of the country just because taxes are higher. We'd have a pretty pathetic country if people were only here for the taxes. We are a socially stable country, with a lot of excellent places to live- and people like that. Might some of the rich leave? Well, they didn't in the past, why should be worry about it when our taxes are so low compared to other civilized Western countries. If someone really wants to go to Ethiopia for low taxes, let's see how long they last there. You get a lot for your tax money in the US- even if the wingers and baggers, who take advantage of all the benefits, don't understand them.

We have roads that are passable at all times of the year. We have police who generally will not hold you up at gunpoint and take your money., We have a military that is stable, and unlikely to depose the leader of our country. We have few kidnappings of the wealthy, and most of the country is fairly safe. Children are not bought and sold here, for slaves- whether factory or sexual. Our schools, though imperfect, do a fairly good job of educating students with decent parental backgrounds. We have numerous social safety nets- though the right wingers and baggers would like to cut gaping holes in these- and those safety nets keep our population relatively comfortable, and relatively stable. When there are disasters, though the government response may be imperfect, there IS a government response. Our food is tested, as are the toys are children play with. The CDC operates pretty effectively. Would it be nice if the EPA were a little more on the ball in protecting us? Sure, but at least we have a functioning EPA, unlike China. I could go on- but you on the left already know all this, and the wingers and baggers, even though they use all this stuff, and would probably squeal like baby piglets for government assistance (if they aren't already on it) the minute something happened to them, would probably claim they'd like to eliminate this stuff. Unfortunately, like wars (which wingers and baggers also like to start) dismantling government can cause a lot of interesting and unintended negative consequences- and it can be a lot harder to fix things, after you've screwed the pooch, than to just proceed carefully, and non-radically, from the get go.
