Here's a great post from Ted, way back in November 2010: Message 26939832 > You assholes have complained about the deficit for a year. What are you going to do to bring spending down by June so the debt ceiling isn't raised? These are simple questions. Why the BS? Follow the thread forwards and backwards. The implication was clear. Ted was in support of raising the debt ceiling without any spending cuts whatsoever. Just raise taxes on the "rich." Now he wants to blame the Tea Party for the S&P downgrade.
