Why is SS in there

Because Social Security spending is spending like any other type of spending. And currently its the largest category of spending. Not including it would be like preparing your budget and not including your mortgage payment.

other than interest paid on the bonds they own....?

The interest on the SS bonds is pretty meaningless. Its paid from the government to the government. I can move money back and forth between my left pocket and my right, or between my savings and checking accounts, but I'm not actually generating either an income or an expense.

Where did the Obamacare subsidy come from?

From the Obamacare law.

" Health insurance exchanges will commence operation in each state, offering a marketplace where individuals and small businesses can compare policies and premiums, and buy insurance (with a government subsidy if eligible)."

"Two years of tax credits will be offered to qualified small businesses. In order to receive the full benefit of a 50% premium subsidy, the small business must have an average payroll per full time equivalent ("FTE") employee, excluding the owner of the business, of less than $25,000 and have fewer than 11 FTEs. The subsidy is reduced by 6.7% per additional employee and 4% per additional $1,000 of average compensation. As an example, a 16 FTE firm with a $35,000 average salary would be entitled to a 10% premium subsidy."

"Employed individuals who pay more than 9.5% of their income on health insurance premiums will be permitted to purchase subsidized private insurance through the exchanges.

For example a family of four with a 35 year old tax filer, making $40k in a medium cost area, would get a subsidy of over $9k. Change the filer to be a 55 year old and change it to a high cost area and the subsidy is $21,718. Push things further (lower income or older tax payer) and the subsidy $ number at that site gets replaced by "Medicare" or "Medicaid" as more people will be eligible for those programs, which also increases government spending.

And defense spending in 2010 is just 5-10% of total spending?

No probably more like 20%. Its about 5% of GDP not federal spending, and that's what the chart shows.
