Doug,

Agreed on HSBC.

As for Everbright, I've heard about the same stories, i.e. the Chinese want to make it the new flagship now that Larry Yung's CITIC (HK) is "independent". This is not to be confused with the CITIC in CHina which is headed by Jun Wang, son of the late vice-chairman of the Chinese govt. Everbright has been doing quite well and its leader (don't know the exact name of his post) Zhu conducts numerous acquisitions and got the name Gold Finger (whatever he points to appreciates). But I also heard that its PE is rather high.
