If all the folks who claim to be patriots made a gift, maybe it would make a dent as well.

But the truth is, "gifts" won't do the trick. Not even you, patriot that you are, will give the govt money to reduce its indebtedness. And don't tell me that is because a democratic administration is in power--you didn't do it when Republicans controlled all three branches and we were fighting two wars that you supported either. And none of the self proclaimed patriots bothered to even broach the topic of actually paying for these wars on anything but a credit card even while they were telling us how necessary for national security they were.

The only thing that has a chance of doing it is a stronger economy and more employment. Steady, not necessarily spectacular, growth over a period of time. Without any intervening disasters brought on by insufficient regulation to basic sectors like banking or energy.

I've already answered that in another post. Sweet of you to think I'd give you a free ride- but I think all the rich people should pay their share for the wealth and benefits they enjoy. I do think I should pay more, but I'm not doing it alone, because I'm rational, and not a saint, nor do I want to subsidize the lifestyle of other rich folks who don't want to contribute. I want the rates back, say, to what they were when St Raygun was around, and I want no loop holes, and nice strong laws to deal with folks who cheat. Then, when we couple that kind of sensible and fair revenue with cost cutting- we will be sure to get our AAA rating back. Now doesn't that just make all kinds of sense? Of course it does.
