Obama said that he would veto anything below 4T. he failed to stand that ground. If he stood his ground and the debt ceiling was not OK's the way he wanted it, the US was in a position to pay the interest on the debt. What was at his discretion was the payment of Social Security checks. When people would not see their SS checks in the mail, they would start pressuring their Congress folks to approve the 4T deal and not the 2T deal he signed. Obama missed a golden opportunity. Now, as you said, it will be surprising if folks like Cantor take the mike away from him.
