I disagree with Paul. Selling equities and keeping cash can be market timing, but it also can be portfolio allocation (where you decide that you keep X% in cash) and it can also be a value decision when there is nothing cheap to buy.

Selling equities in the middle of a drop is usually market timing though. ;) Although some people call it "being able to sleep at night" decision...
