11-Aug-11 10:12 ET In Play SodaStream Earnings Call Summary: Increased competition and lacklsuter guidance leads to sell-off (50.11 -18.70) -Update : SodaStream (SODA) is selling off today as the company was unable to ease investor concerns on the call. There were two problems: increased competition and lackluster guidance. SODA conceded that it is seeing increased competition in its mature markets. This is a concern because one of the key positives to the SODA story has been a relative lack of competition, but based on this call, it sounds like the competition is creeping in.

Another factor for the sell-off is the guidance. It quickly became apparent during the Q&A that analysts were disappointed in the guidance. There were at least five questions about it. Basically, analysts wanted to know why, if everything is going so great and the US is taking off, why just reiterate guidance? SODA said it's coming up against tougher comps and it's waiting for the results of tests at some new retailers before adding them to the guidance.
