Thats great. How about the same law for anyone running for office. You would need to make exceptions, you couldnt count working for a law firm or community organizers.

Chartseer

I must take exception to your comment.

I was a teacher------------during my teenage years I worked at many jobs and in college I did the same.

One of the requirements was to teach for 1 full year before being certified to teach mathematics under supervision of the principle of the high school and the mathematics department of the college. That was an experience I will never forget and cherish to this day. Then In graduate school as an assistant I taught teachers how to teach mathematics.

We don't need a 'federal law' to mandate other work experience before teaching. The moment we mandate or legislate we are into more Federal Laws and into socialism. That is what Obama is all about.

Should we be mandating that our public school children learn Spanish in our public schools---------let the Spanish speakers and others learn English. In elementary schools we are now seeing Spanish being a mandated language for all students.

In this area of Northern Virginia when the student gets to Middle School (previously known as Junior High) they are allowed in the local system to choose the language they want to learn after having been 'required' to take 5 years of Spanish-----------again why should we have a local law or state law that mandates that all Children study Spanish?.

What is at issue here is the 'kind of education' and whether or not the quality that is coming out of the public schools is commensurate with the public funds being paid. In some cases yes and in some no.

The other issue are the teacher unions----------------which can control salaries as well as curriculum. Living in a right to work state I firmly believe that local elected school boards are the answer as elected school boards who do not perform can be unelected.

Unions are not elected or unelected by the citizens-------hence the society has little say over the pay of the teachers . If you want any say then elected school boards are part of the answer.

How about some similar requirement to run for political office? Two years as an enlisted man/woman in the infantry should initiate appropriate attitude adjustment followed by another two years public service to see how it is to live on minimum wage and balance a budget. Oh yeah, and no lawyers.
