There was no validity in their crimes, they were just simple crimes.

That means create great fear in them as effectively as possible. Make them sure of being caught and certain of being punished - hey presto, they will cease and desist.

It's not often you admit you were were wrong. But it's nice to see. Some people, most even, have difficulty admitting they were wrong. Well done for changing your mind from thinking the revolting rioters were the same as the Arabs revolting. They were qualitatively different. Just as slaves revolting against captivity would be different from the Peckham criminals. Saddam Hussein was not just another politician like David Cameron.
