I didn't see anyone answer your question. I am confused like you, but what I understand is this:

The record date is the last date that shareholders will get the benefit of the split (stock dividend). I am like you in that I "think" I have seen cases where this is not true. I'll call my broker tomorrow to see what he says. In theory, this should act just like an Ex-dividend date, but I'm not sure it does..

I guess we can wait and see what happens tomorrow.
