For you to think that you and kenny have the empathy market cornered on this thread is a riot......for many of us this deep concern is just new "code words or phrases" to make any excuse for the major and easily discernible flaws in government to continue to grow larger.........teach a person to fish and they can feed themselves for life.....teach a person to apply for food stamps, welfare and any assistance easily available and as likely as not, you will get a lazy s.o.b. wondering who is going to give him something else down the road. No one here that I know of has a problem with the truly disabled, orphans and elderly getting help.....but most of us have a real problem with trying to grow the dependent class for political gain. Thanks for you input. Recently, I was speaking with a Social Worker/casework in Missouri who works with individuals who have multiple children to receive what was (ADC) Aid to Dependent Children as a means of financial support. She indicated, quote, "those individuals consider the receipt of the Aid as their "Inheritance ." From my 5O+ years I had/have never heard that ADC was an expected inheritance. Since ADC in our State terminates in 5 years for each child I asked the social worker what happens with the 5 years expires for each child. She indicated that the revenue for each child stops. I then asked a local attorney what happens after that time. The attorney indicated that the courts in our State is reluctant to take the children away from the family. He further stated, the mother gives up their right to the children and the grandmother of the children takes the children within her household as a "foster parent. " He further stated that the mother of the children many times will then move in with the grandmother. The problem I see, is this cycle can continue on. The question is how does our society stop this cycle!!!But, IMO, we must have empathy who are legitimately trying to find work, but, with no success of finding a job . I would prefer that those participating on this site to problem solve how we can improve the system to help those who are legitimately trying to find work. As an attorney Kenneth can probably give us some ideas how the legal system works related to those in poverty recognizing that each State probably varies. Again, thanks for your opinions.
