Thanks for the summary, Jerome. And you said you are not good at marketing...

If Sandisk goes to retail sales, that will be more profit margin than selling through the OEMs.

Thanks for the summary. I hadn't really thought about it before, but the audio application could be as big or bigger than the photography application if SNDK plays it right. Part of the problem with CD's is the inability to record. Enter SNDK with a media that is smaller, probably more durable (certainly more durable than a DAT) and that can hold 60 minutes worth of audio, and voila, "digital tape". If they can get more OEM's to make players/ recorders the impact of the music business could be substantial. Instead of going to a record store, I could order a custom selection of songs over the 'net and be done with it. How many CD's do most people have?.....

Ah, great to see these announcements. We knew that we would see these Handheld PC design-in announcements. With Microsoft mapping out the use of CompactFlash&#153 in Handheld PCs, we knew design-ins were VERY likely.

Jerome, thank you very much for tabulating the design-ins. Actually the Compaq C-Series PC Companion design-in was for the old typeII PCMCIA form factor.

I was at Wolf Camera in Palo Alto Sunday night. I looked at the digital cameras. All but one had a CompactFlash&#153 slot. They were selling SanDisk brand name CompactFlash&#153 cards separately for the 5 or so digital cameras that use the CompactFlash. The saleswoman told me when I asked that "its extra memory for all of the digital cameras."

I said, "all of them?"

She said, "yes, oh, I guess the Toshiba camera uses a different one." The point is that the CompactFlash is considered the new digital film in camera stores. Here's the good part, they were SOLD OUT of the Kodak digital cameras. I think they were selling out the old Kodak DC25. The prices on the SanDisk memory cards were high. The 4MB SanDisk CompactFlash&#153 card was selling for $119 and the 15MB card was $179.

Rex

Jerome, I have taken an interest in SNDK having read your stuff and everybody elses. I called my broker today and asked for a institutional report on them. He told me the Bloomberg report has SNDK at 22% institutional ownership. The top 3 portfolio names are Fidelity Managment at 1,865,000 shares or 8.21 % ownership as of 06/97. Wellington Managment at 758,000 or 3.34 % ownership as of 06/97. Dawson-Samberg Managment at 363,000 shares or 1.60 % at 09/97. If Seagate owns 25 % and institutions own 22 % thats 47 % and that don't include insiders or managment. Comments please.
