World Bank Chief Sees Multi-Speed Recovery Globally By REUTERS Published: August 14, 2011 at 7:18 AM ET

SYDNEY (Reuters) - The world is going through a multi-speed recovery, World Bank Chief Robert Zoellick said on Sunday.

Zoellick, who was speaking at the Asia Society's annual dinner in Sydney, was asked about his assessment of the U.S. economy.

About half of global growth comes from emerging markets which face different challenges, such as economy overheating and inflationary pressures, he added.

ELMAT:
Well, that sounds like decoupling to me.

The "flash mob riot" tactic is already here...

Après le Déluge, What?
BY PEGGY NOONAN
online.wsj.com

Philadelphia right now is under curfew because of "flash mobs." Young people send out the word on social media, and suddenly dozens or hundreds of them hit a targeted store, steal everything on the shelves, and run, knowing no one will stop them or catch them. It's happened in other cities, too. Sometimes the mobs beat people up on the street and take their money. There are the beat-downs in McDonald's, where the young lose all control and the old fear to intervene. There were the fights and attacks last weekend at the Wisconsin State Fair. You've seen the YouTubes of fights on the subways. You often see links to these stories on Drudge: He headlines them "Les Miserables."

Trinidad declares state of emergency in crime hot-spots
bbc.co.uk

23 August 2011 Last updated at 08:23 ET

The aim of emergency rule was to halt the current spike in gang activity and crime in general in the shortest possible time, the prime minister said in a televised address.

"The nation will not be held to ransom by marauding gangs of thugs bent on creating havoc on our society. The limited state of emergency in hot spots across Trinidad and Tobago is merely part of a larger aggressive reaction response by the government."
