OT:

Gottfried, I am not only surprised, I don't believe it.

<<I'm surprised>>

When I go into a store and look at items of interest to buy, I would say that 9 out of 10 say "Made in China"

Don

"OT ** 'Made in China' ranks only 2.7% of U.S. spending"

Key is SPENDING

Mortgage interest... new Cars..... new houses... new factories.... new stores... new apartments... food.... out-of-control government spending from $100M fighter jets to salaries for SEC lawyers to watch porn are all much more spending as a percentage of GDP than what we spend on windsurfing equipment, (ie recreation toys), clothes, ipods and TVs.

<I'm surprised>

I don't believe it either. Go to WalMart, pick any aisle, and half the products are made in China. Or Mexico, Vietnam, Brazil, India.

I don't believe any data from the government, and especially the Federal Reserve, unless it matches my real-world experience. Yes, I know, the Federal Reserve is supposed to be independent, but I don't believe that either.
