Giving us a broad technical base, I guess. As a matter of fact I also had 2 years of civil engineering courses in statics. Used to being able to compute the dimensions of a roof or even a bridge supporting beam. Or how about a power cable supported between two points, not a trivial problem when you want it to hang down as little as possible but face the limitation of the pulling limits of the material.

That said, I guarantee that you like most people have no clue of what kind of mathematical curve a cable hanging between 2 supporting points follows... A real bet that is, because the answer is quite surprising - and only a few ever heard of that math function. For a starter, its not parabolic :)
