What it is is a "Loophole". And we need more of them, not fewer.

Bentway, > To you, a great charity, the Gates Foundation, out solving the world's problems, is just a TAX DODGE!

I never said it's "just" a tax dodge. That's just you being a complete asshole again.

Ask yourself why Buffett is contributing to the Gates Foundation instead of writing a check to the IRS. It's because the Gates Foundation, a PRIVATE organization, can do much more good for the world than the federal government.

Like I said, raise taxes on Buffett, and he'll just end up donating less to the Gates Foundation. He'll never sacrifice his own standard of living (which is relatively low compared to other billionaires). Instead, he'll just reallocate all of his disposable wealth.

Even you know that, but I think you're too afraid to admit it.

Set an Example and Send a Check for $5 Billion to the Federal Government

PAT BUCHANAN: No, I’m writing a note to Warren Buffett. But look, I’m a little fed up with these people who come on, you know, their big op-eds, all these admonitions. Why doesn’t he set an example and send a check for $5 billion to the federal government? He’s got about $40 billion. You know, you had a plan up there, I talked to Howie Carr at Boston where the super-rich could contribute an extra amount. It was something like one-tenth of one percent did it. You get all this noise from these big rich folks. Let them send checks and set an example instead of writing op-eds.
