But the fact of the matter is that Obama and the dem senate rejected the only bipartisan bill that would have avoided the downgrade. That is an undisputed fact.

For once we seem to agree.

Their argument was mostly based on their perception of the politics of the day.

Basically they seem to think Congress has a thumb firmly lodged up their bum and they will not be able to take any effective action against continued deficits because of their paralysis.

They seem to have concluded that inertia FAVORS a continuation of no big spending cuts and no revenue increases.... And that way leads only to ever bigger deficits.

(I assume that you have finally watched one of the S&P interviews on video now, Bill, and know what they cited as their reasons, eh? :-)
